Stansted Airport JetParks: the cheapest park and ride, and what to know

JetParks is the airport's own off-airport park and ride, and usually the cheapest of its car parks for a trip of a week or more. You park about 2 miles out and take a free shuttle to the terminal. The trade for the low price is a slightly longer transfer and a 7-day minimum stay. This page covers the cost, the shuttle and its real-world reliability, how it works, and how it compares with Long Stay.

How much does JetParks cost?

JetParks is usually the cheapest of the airport's own car parks. Pre-booked rates start from around £60 for 8 days, though the exact figure moves: Stansted prices its car parks dynamically, and the airport's own pages show more than one set of "from" prices for the same product, so there is no single fixed rate to quote. It is pre-book only, with no drive-up rate, and the minimum stay is 7 days.

That 7-day minimum is the thing to check first: JetParks is built for a holiday, not a short trip. For anything shorter, Long Stay (5-day minimum) or Mid Stay (3-day minimum) will suit. A standard booking can be cancelled free up to 72 hours before arrival. Prices are lowest booked ahead, so check the live quote on the official JetParks page, comparing it against Long Stay for the same dates, since which is cheaper depends on the length of stay. The cheap parking page covers the wider comparison.

The free shuttle

JetParks is a ride from the terminal, not a walk. A free shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. The airport quotes the transfer inconsistently across its own pages, as a 10 to 15 minute ride, so the safe plan is to allow 15 minutes plus the wait at the stop.

One honest caveat from traveller reviews. JetParks shares its shuttle with Long Stay, and JetParks is the last stop, so on a busy return you can be on the bus longer and dropped last. As with Long Stay, the every-15-minutes frequency can slip at peak times, with longer waits reported in both directions. None of this is a reason to avoid JetParks, but it is a reason to leave a real buffer rather than counting on a bus the moment you reach the stop, especially for the outbound trip to catch a flight.

How it works

JetParks is barrierless in the way that matters: there is no ticket. You book in advance, drive up, and the ANPR system reads your number plate and opens the barrier. You park, walk to the nearest stop, and take the free shuttle to the terminal. On return, the shuttle brings you back and the barrier reads your plate again so you simply drive away. Payment is taken when you book.

The car park is about 2 miles from the airport, off the M11, and is secure and Park Mark accredited, the police-backed Safer Parking standard that all the official car parks hold. It is open 24 hours. Motorcyclists are not booked online here: you pre-book a motorcycle space by phoning the airport call centre.

JetParks vs Long Stay

JetParks and Long Stay are the two budget park and ride options, and the choice is close.

  • JetParks is slightly further out, has less space, a 7-day minimum stay, and is often a little cheaper for a week-long trip.
  • Long Stay is a touch closer, has a 5-day minimum, and tends to be the cheaper of the two on longer stays.

Both share the same shuttle and the same peak-time wait, so reliability is not a deciding factor between them. The honest answer is to price both for your exact dates and book whichever is lower, because the order flips with the length of stay. The cheap parking page also weighs them against the independent off-airport operators, and the parking hub sets out every option side by side.

Postcode and directions

The JetParks postcode for sat-nav is CM24 1AE, on Roman Lane. Use that, not the terminal postcode (CM24 1RW), or you will be sent to the wrong place. Stansted is off the M11: use junction 8a from the London direction or junction 8 from the Cambridge side, then follow the signs for JetParks.

The full set of car-park postcodes and the road approach are on the postcode and directions page, and the M11 route is covered on the driving to Stansted page.

Blue Badge and motorcycles

JetParks has Blue Badge parking. A Blue Badge does not make the parking free at Stansted: the normal charge applies, so book in advance as any driver would. For accessible parking across all the car parks and the routes from each, see the Blue Badge parking page.

Motorcyclists cannot book JetParks online; to reserve a motorcycle space you phone the airport call centre instead. A 50 percent motorcycle discount also applies at Short Stay and Long Stay if those suit your dates better.

Frequently asked

Is JetParks the cheapest parking at Stansted?

It is usually the cheapest of the airport own car parks, aimed at longer trips. For a stay of around a week it tends to be the lowest official price, though Long Stay can work out cheaper on longer stays, and an independent off-airport operator sometimes undercuts both. Book early whichever you choose, because the price is dynamic.

How far is JetParks from the terminal?

JetParks is about 2 miles from the terminal, off the M11, slightly further out than the airport other car parks. A free shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day; the airport quotes the transfer as roughly 10 to 15 minutes on its own pages, so allow 15 minutes plus the wait at the stop.

How much does JetParks cost?

Pre-booked rates start from around £60 for 8 days, but the price is dynamic and rises as your date nears and as spaces fill. JetParks is pre-book only, with no drive-up rate. Book ahead for the lowest rate, and compare it against Long Stay for the same dates.

Is there a minimum stay at JetParks?

Yes, the minimum stay is 7 days, subject to availability. For a shorter trip, Long Stay has a 5-day minimum, and Mid Stay a 3-day minimum, so one of those will suit better.

How does JetParks work?

You book in advance, drive up, and the ANPR system reads your number plate and opens the barrier, so there is no ticket to keep. You park, take the free shuttle to the terminal, and on return the barrier reads your plate again so you can drive away. Payment is taken at the time of booking.

What is the difference between JetParks and Long Stay?

Both are budget park and ride options with a free shuttle. JetParks is slightly further out, has less space, and a 7-day minimum stay, and is often a little cheaper for a week. Long Stay is closer, has a 5-day minimum, and tends to be cheaper on longer stays. Compare both for your exact dates.

What is the JetParks postcode for sat-nav?

JetParks is at CM24 1AE, on Roman Lane. Use that rather than the terminal postcode (CM24 1RW), which would send you to the wrong place.
